Transmission Question ?

I just noticed that my transmission shift lever wont go into anything lower than the drive indent on the plate. It shifts good and all but for some reason it just won't go to 4th 3rd 2nd 1st. Is there a fix or what could be the problem. As I said all gears work good and car is not in the limp home mode. Thanks for replies c280 sport w202

It looks like your car is overdue on transmission oil change. I would start from there and see if it helps.

Just to clarify, it will not slide sideways into 4th either, or it will not go physically below the D-4 level? Also, does the transmission lock in park when you do not step on the brake, or can you shift out without stepping on the brake?

The shifter was hard going sideways into the 4th position from the drive position, it shifts well. I put some lithium grease at the lever area and over a period of time it has started to work correctly.It will not come out of park without stepping on the brake. I suspect the cold weather has something to do with it. I am going to put the car away for the winter as soon as my minivan is ready. The MB is having a paint job then it is going into storage till March or April. I'll be looking for some classy wheels for the summer. I Like the factory 16" so I'll probably stay with the 16" just a different style.

Do you need something replaced like:

<H5 style="MARGIN-TOP: 0.5em; MARGIN-BOTTOM: 0.5em">2029920010

MTC
Gear Shift Part; Gear Shift Bushing; Green
Used on most late Mercedes models with either automatic or manual transmissions. Please verify appearance of existing bushing prior to ordering. Also need 0009944160 clip. 2 per car.

</H5>
0009944160

Mercedes (OE)
Shift Linkage; Retaining Clip for Mechanical Linkages
As needed to secure ends of linkage.
