1995 Radio Hiss / Amp Info

My wife has a 1995 C280 that has hiss in the rear speakers when the radio is on. I'd be willing to bet that there is something going on with the amp in the trunk, as it sounds like amp noise.

Is the bose amp there a normal line level in, speaker out kind, or is there something special about that sucker. I'd hate to have to put in a replacement radio (I actually like the speed sensitive volume), but if it comes down to loosing that, or paying for a bose amp, I think I'll end up with a pioneer and an afternoon of wiring speakers.

Any thoughts? It could be a grounding problem, which will be my first check. I just found this board and before today didn't know that the car had an amp in the truck.

Thanks,
Tad

I feel you guys too on that one... same thing with my 95 C280 Bose. If the volume is any higher than minimal, and there are louder external noises (ie: driving-wind/tire noise, climate control, etc) then I can't hear that hiss.

But if it's low volume and/or i'm parked.... I can hear it too... it bugs... to the best of my knowledge, there is no problem, it's just the way it is.

I have a 97 and I have had the same problems too, whenever I told my dealer that, he just said that's b/c it's not fiber optic like the new models. I'm thinking of changing just my head unit (to an alpine), has anyone done this WITHOUT replacing the bose amp and speakers?

Your dealer is telling you a crock. I don't have fiber optic and my stereo is completely silent. It's got to be something else.
