My son put his keys in the laundry and his remote no longer works. It is dead dead dead. Tried everything and convinced it's toast and needs to be replaced. Light won't even come on when you press any button. It is for a 2000 C280 Sport. I've seen many FOBs on eBay that are very inexpensive ($20-30). However, I've gotten many different stories as to whether or not they can be programmed to work and the cost to program it.

Anyone here have solid info on whether the used FOBs on eBay likely will work and the cost to reprogram it? I am in Orange County, California. If anyone knows of a place that also will reprogram around here without charing an arm and a leg please let me know. Thanks!

No, no, and no. End of story. Buy on eBay and you have a key as worthless as the one that got washed.

Yep, dealers will not reprogram remotes that you bring in from ebay. This might be a good chance for you to get the new style chrome smart key!

there are soooo many threads on this and they all come down to oerdering a new key from the dealer, I did and am very happy.
