SRS Question

I recently had to have some body work done to the left front door of my 99 C280 that required taking the guts out of the door. When the shop put it all together, after the work the dash board now has the SRS light on. The shop is telling me that it needs to be reset by Mercedes. Can someone enlighten me to the correct measures to be done to make sure the SRS is operating correctly. All replies will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

if they turned the key on with the air bag disconnected it would turn the light on, just bring it to the dealer and they can check fault codes and erase them,
they can also let you know if there is a problem, but let them know what the body shop did so they won`t think there is a problem with that air bag

I am wondering if they tripped something via the CANbus connection/module at the window regulator which tripped the SRS. Unfortunately, most MB dealers will charge a hefty diagonostic fee to reset it. You can buy SRS resetters for MBs off of Ebay. They will reset some SRS codes but I am not sure they can reset them all. For $70, it could be less than the stealership diagnostic and then you would have the unit for any future issues.

Next time, ask the body shop to disconnect the battery before doing any work!

hopefully I won't need to have a body shop involved any more. Car had some L/s frt door damage and it needed to be gutted to repair properly. Didn't want a drill hole and pull the dent out type of repair. Paid extra but job was done to perfection. Can't be told from factory.

Can the Climate Control be used to reset the SRS light?
(It CAN erase the normal error codes.)

99MBSport, please follow the instruction that I have posted at http://Kropf.net/w202/#CCerrs, and let me know if clearing the codes also resets the SRS light.

Thanks!

Clearing the codes with the Climate Control will not do the SRS system. Car has to go back to the shop in 30 days for water sanding and Buffing so I'll have them do the SRS then. Thanks for the info tho it will come in handy if I need to clear codes.

Got tired of looking at the SRS light on and dropped the lower dash and took the bulb out. Then I replaced it and BINGO the bulb now goes out when I start the car. Maybe by taking the bulb out it cleared the code?? Seem to be working OK.
