Fuel Gauge Trouble

Hi people

just started having trouble with my fuel gauge. Basicly one minuite it shows the tank as completely empty with no reserve light, then full, then 1/4 etc etc and never settles on a level. I have no idea how much fuel I have in my tank and its obviously causing alot of hassle. Any idea what would cause this, how much it would cost to fix?

Thanks

Fuel Guage

This happens on my 1998 C230 when I top-off the tank. Topped-off, the gauge will read empty until I burn a few gallons. It’s accurate from that point on. Erroneous fuel-gauge readings are often due to a bad potentiometer on the fuel-level sensor. I had the repair priced at a dealership. They quoted $400. I simply try not to top the tank off and it’s works great.

It is most probably the fuel level sending unit.

Try Techron Concentrate.
Worked for me.
Add to almost empty tank.
It took to fillups before the problem went away for me.
