Gearlever?!

I have recently purchased a '94 C220 Elegance and the only thing that spoils the interior is a very worn gearknob/stick. It seems that it does not simply screw off, so do I have to remove the gaitor also, and does anyone do an aftermarket item, possibly wood look to compliment the rest of the dash?

You have more work to do than most other W202 owners. See this thread.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing right now. Our shift knobs came over from the 190E's. You first have to get this conversion shaft for $15. Look here.

http://www.slaccessories.com/CatalogPage.php?Page=26

You then can go to Ebay and get this $25 wooden shift knob.

If this shift knob has already been bought, just look under his other auctions. He always has a few for sale.

I changed out my shift knob on my 190E and it was pretty easy. It took about 10 minutes with 2 people. You have to pop up the plastic ring that goes around the lever. Then pry on the two tabs to take the other piece of plastic off. Then remove the lock nut and unscrew the lever. If this is too vague I'll try to find my instructions and send them to you.

Thanks guys!

I will probably have a look at it this weekend. Anyone know where I can get the gaitor cover, or would it be better just to get one from Mercedes for the newer version?

I soppose being a manual the knob does get more abuse than an auto, never mind!
