What's a good setup for a cold air intake? what filter to use and where's the best place to put the tip of the filter at.

 

I'm also looking for CAI for my C280, anyone know anything about it?

 

You car has a cold air intake from the factory.

Any changes will probably make is slower because it will eliminate the variable-legnth intake.

 

ok, so maybe putting a drop on filter would help? like K&N? what do you think?

 

The problem with K&N in these cars is that they often cause MAF problems, and they let through much more particular matter. Try replacing the air filter every 15k miles if you want a better intake. In fact, if you want to prove it to yourself, take your air filter out and test drive the car, now, the K&N will be halfway between that and a new clean air filter.

The limiting factor is not the intake or exhaust, keep in mind that you have a 2,2 liter engine.

To have a good setup that would be beneficial to the car is going to take a fair bit of work. Plenty of info up on club202 about it, essentially a straight pipe from maf to your inlet with a good cone filter, and creating a heat shield to go around the filter area.

Some people go for the bottom of the bumper as an inlet but then you'll want to install a bypass valve as well to avoid water issues, prob a lot more work for nothing.

I can't say i've seen anyone dyno their's before and after so as you can guess the gains are going to be very minimal. I think most of the "gains" are from the sound.

K&N's don't seem worth it, basically no performance increase for a chance at damaging your maf

 

My C280 have CAI from the factory? I didn't know. So I should let it serial, instead I cud make it only slower.

 

Correct, if you look at the intake you will see it is CAI.

I konw, that he gets cold air from front side. But isn't thah serial on every car? Can you show me pic of W202 without CAI?

 

That is my point, MB has been building their cars with CAI from the factory for over 20 years. There are plenty of cheaper cars that do not have CAI from the factory, that just take air in from the engine bay, and those would benefit from the modification. This is one of the many things you pay for as standard on a MB.

 

Well, yeah I agree that MB has a cold air intake and I do see that in my car. it's pretty much standard nowadays even on jap cars you see it.

SO i guess my question would be... why do people still modify their w202 if it has no gain? take for example people on youtube.

i see, anyway, since we're talking about the air intake here, do you guys know what the plastic tube in between the MAF and throttle body is called? some of the plastic's edge are broken and needs replacement badly.

I think air escapes from the small holes causing my engine to idle like crazy and makes the car vibrate.

 

I had same problem. I replaced vents on injectors and it was good.
Additional air was going into the engine and it was to much air or to less so car was shaking. Replacing the rubber on nozzle fixed the problem.
