does the tranny jerk from first to second?

this really is bad. i got my car about 6,000 miles ago and i did not get an owners manual. so i was wondering what the w/s was near the shifter. i soon found that it was second gear start, or not. i just realized today that at some point in time during the last couple thousand miles that it got switched from the standard "S" mode, to the "W" winter mode and i have been driving it that way ever since. i just switched it back and noticed that the tranny has a very short first gear and it kind of jerks a bit. i live in indiana and the car was cold so i think that may have a little to do with it but is this normal, whether warm or cold? will this go away after driving many miles and letting it warm up good? you can really feel it pull from first to second but other gears are fine. any info?

The transmission fluid should be changed every 40k miles,,everyone who has done this reports back with much smoother changes.

When the car is cold, it will hold onto the lower gears to warm up the CAT

I think it is every 30k... either way, remember to use the OEM fluid and filter.
