ATF Leak

Does anyone know a good brand of gasket? I notice my ATF keeps leaking and it's getting worse by the day. Every morning I see a big puddle of oil underneath the oil pan. It's causing me alot of money to keep refilling the ATF. A mechanic tried working on it 3 times to stop the leak but with no luck it still pee's a lot of oil. He said it might be a good time to change the gasket but when I saw the gasket it still looks new so I'm not really sure what to do.

Any advice how to get rid of this problem? Thanks.

autohauz az . com sells an OEM pan gasket if that is what you need. Get fluid while you are at it and do a change.

Are you sure you don't have the infamous leak at the connector for the wiring to the tranny's ECU? That is the most common leak point. A new connector is $14 at the dealer.

where is that at located? I'll lift the car again and see for myself where it's coming from.

Worst case, you may have a busted seal.

However, check the gasket bec. it's more prone to failure esp. with the
car's age.

autohausaz.com is an online parts store. I've bought a lot of stuff
from them for my W202 and W210-E55. Can't go wrong with their
prices - very competitive.

good luck.

I'm thinking it's the gasket. I had it lift and notice that most of the oil are coming from the oil pan. Although I'm going to check that area shown on the pic courtesy by xvvvz. I couldn't really get a good close up of the whole thing.

Hey xvvvz, it says on the picture if it's the tranny ECU leak it won't go on the floor. You still think there might be a chance that it could be the problem?

I have read some people say it leaked on the ground, that is how they knew to start looking for a leak. At that point though, I think the fluid will have had to have wicked up into the harness and then found a gap in the harness sheathing. That would be a leak that has advanced along pretty far though. The shrinking round washer gasket in the connector is a known issue for the w202.

With that said, maybe your older transmission that is not electronic doesn't use a tranny CPU? I just saw the age on your car and that thought occurred to me. Even so, you might as well check it all out when you drain your pan to replace the gasket. Get the gasket kit that has the filter and crush washer too. I think it was like $23ish from autohausaz. The fluid is rather expensive for the newer transmissions but your older one can use the more common fluid type that is cheaper if I remember right. Double check with MB and only use an approved fluid!

yeah I agree. I don't think my car has the ECU thing cause I don't even have those mode that you can select. It's basically a plain one.

I notice a connector or a sensor that goes to the oil pan. it has an orange wire connected to it, any idea what it is? I do see oil on the wire.
