Hole in lower front timing chain cover
Yep, that about says it all! I dropped a socket while working on my running 94 c280 and it fell behind my crankshaft pulley and punched a penny sized hole just to the lower right side of the crankshaft seal. I did this a couple months ago and just found the leak today! The leak wasn't insane considering. I can't believe oil wasn't pouring out. Anyway, here is the question...remove and replace the lower cover OR JB Weld the hole? Anybody ever remove their lower cover? How bad of a job is it? I don't mind the expense of a used lower cover...less than $40 on eBay...but the removal procedure seems daunting.

Was a PITA
Once I was confident it was a normally threaded bolt, I gave a little extra effort helped with a three foot steel pipe, and the bolt gave in. Just used vice grips to hold harmonic balancer...didn't think it would hold but did. Now I have to look up torque value to get it back on! I wonder if I should use any type of thread sealer. I think I am going the patch route...I do wonder about that penny sized piece of aluminum in the pan,,,I guess it fell to the bottom. I would drop the oil pan but hoisting the engine just to get the pan out is not an option for me. Does anybody know if the pan could be removed enough to look inside without hoisting engine and messing with motor mounts?
