Question Shifter Linkage

Is there a way to adjust the shifter? I notice that my "D" light wont come on unless the shifter is mid point. I suspect that this is causing the tranny to stay in 1st for a while. If I stop the car, shift it to where the light is on, it goes great. I am suspect to there being dirty contacts on the inner workings of the shifter. Has anyone cleaned the pad with the contacts on it. Thanks for ALL replies

Mercedes
I looked this up in ALLDATAdiy.com for your C280. The gap between the locking lever and cam should be 0.20mm. There is an adjustment screw that can be turned in association with supply voltage to the adjustment solenoid in your Mercedes.
