bekkers.com has a replica insert

performanceproducts.com has a replica full assembly

autorice.com has a replica insert

autocross.net has an oem w140 insert cut to fit w202

your mb stealership has an oem w210 insert cut to fit w202

Actually, some false information here...

Bekker's insert is actually an OEM W210 grill cut to fit the W202, not a replica. It has a W210 part number printed on the grill.

MB dealers has an OEM W202 grill that is specific to the W202. The part number is B6 688 0127.

As for bekkers grill,

http://www.bekkers.com/cgi-bin/miva?...ry_Code=maeroc

it says on their website (and from a phone rep that I spoke to) that the grill is a replica.

"A complete grille assembly with chrome strips, chrome grill surround and black plastic insert. Please note: this is not an original equipment grill but is of good quality."

I could be misinformed tho

and scorchie coulda been sent the wrong grill, if they do have a w202 specific avantgarde grill made for the w202.

I honestly dont know, I just ordered an oem w140 avantgarde grill cut to fit w202. got a special request on that item to return for free if it didnt fit or if I didnt like it.

I'll let everyone know how that goes once I get it, pics too.

Yes you are right, I forgot that this was the case now... Thanks for the correction. But nonetheless the Bekker's grill is exactly the same thing, a cut up W210 grill and it's the exact same part number. Unless Bekker's recently changed their supplier....

Years ago, back in 1995/96 (?), MB used to produce a W202 specific grill. It had a W202 specific part number and the grill slates were grey (just like the US OEM grill slates) rather than black, like the way it is now. This is what I was referring to.... Again, sorry for the confusion.

No, the Mercedes part is indeed a W210 part cut to fit a W202 grill frame.

I believe Bekkers is also a W210 part cut to fit, it just wasn't cut by Mercedes, so therefore it is a "replica" (if you compare the cut jobs you can tell the difference). Bekkers may have changed sources since the last one I've seen, so they may now use a replica. I believe Performance also was in the same boat, they cut the W210 it to fit. They probably had a lot of fitment complaints and now only sell the whole assembly where they pushed it in there for you.

This grill is made in germany by a company called "Schatz". The guy whom I spoke to said that it is the same application made by the company for mercedes. Is this true? ...like the clear corners are made by bosch, but mercedes uses them, etc...

can anyone confirm or shed some more light :0

Heres a pic of the Schatz grill that they are selling:

Schatz also makes this neat trunk handle:

looks nice to me and more practical than putting your hand over your trunk top to close it.

Figures,

I just received the supposed "oem" avantgarde grill today from autocross. Upon arrival, I immediately checked for the serial, and well, its there all right, but right beside it, it says "HOLI" and no mercedes insignia.

The edges of the grill is poorly cut and looks almost like if someone tried to break it off, its not trimmed or anything. I gently pushed down on some of the chrome strips, and it was wobbly, wtf!

well, glad I got the special return policy thing, going to return it right now...

I called up the guy at autocross who gave me the special return policy, and he said he was returning his last shipment of those grills (lol?). Anyway, he was explaining how he was going to try to order a few of those REAL oem ones with the "B6 688 0127" serial number.

Maybe we could get a group buy on them if other people are interested?
