your antenna cable likely broke and you need a new one... ebay has plenty...
I am trying to replace mine too and bought a cable, but can't figure out how to get the power unit out since the old cable won't come out and I have to take apart the power unit to get to the cable. If you figure it out then let me know

Mine didnt work either when i bought the car.

I just disconnected the power to motor and raised only the plastic tip of the antenna up so it looks like those new sleek ones. Or old sleek ones, i guess they have completely hidden antennas now.

But all local stations come in clear like that, for ones that are stationed about 50 miles or so away it has to be raised all the way for a good signal.

Id say the motor is shot, not the cables. The gears in the motor are pry worn down, thats usually the case with power windows as well.
