Problem with my 280. Please help!!!

Hey guys,
I was driving home last night on the freeway and my car started to slow down. I put my foot on the gas and it would slow down even more. If I took my foot off the gas it would kinda surge. As I pulled over to the side of the road, all the light on the panel came on and the car died. I tried to start it, it would start after turning over 4 or 5 time. But would dies shortly after. Anyone got any ideas? I'm lost. Fuel pump?

CPS?? These usually are the culprit. Did the car start after sitting for a while ?

Ok, I have been working on this for awhile. At first i though it was gas, the gas gauge said I had a quarter tank. So I put 5 gallons in and the car started right up. Then I started to think it was a bad gas gauge. But then, a few days later it died again. Same thing, no power when you press the gas and when it comes to a stop it dies. So I put 5 more gallons in it and it starts right up. Im lost! Today I went and filled up and shortly after that car starts doing the same thing, but on a full tank. Do you think its the fuel pump? Could it have been slowly dieing over the past month? Or do they just stop working all together? Or maybe the fuel filter? I have replaced fuel pumps before, in other gars, but maybe its just time to send it to the shop.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it's some kind of fuel pump relay or fuel pump problem.

The problem was a wire going to the fuel pump. Looks like it was resting on one of the axles and was slowly melting from the friction. A little cutting, soldering, taping and rerouting took care of the problem. And the link above was no help what so ever. It was almost like everyone on the web is tiring to avoid working on a C280 fuel problem...lol.

lmao...sorry for the link. I don't think anyone could have guess that it was a wire. There isn't much support on here for the c280. I have a c230 and could give you info on that but im clueless on your model. It's a different engine so fuel problems are hard to track down anyways, but i had a similar problem with my w124 and it was the fuel pump relay.
