BAS-ESP warning & no cruise control

After 7 years and 94,000 miles, my '98 C200 has recently flashed up an orange BAS ESP warning light on the dash.
Maybe a coincidence, I'm not sure, but the cruise control has also stopped working (my wife uses the car more than me so cannot say if these happened together).

Has anybody out there had a similar problem?
The handbook just tells you to take it to an official MB agent, but I'm reluctant to do this on such an old vehicle (may get a bill that is greater than the car's value!)

Any help much appreciated. Regards, Stuart

The culprit is the Brake light switch. There are extensive listings on this through out the board. I had the same problem. The cincher here is the "No Cruise" this is run through the BL switch, so that when you put you foot on the brake it cancells the cruise. Simple fix for the DIY'er snap out old snap in new. part can run from 30-45 depending on where you get it.

Thanks for this..........I will try to get one of these and give it a try.

Excuse my ignorance, but where is the switch located, I'm guessing it is somewhere near the pedal?

Thanks again.

I had the same problem on my 98 C200, but just the lights my cruize control worked, I replaced the switch, BUT it still comes on now and then when the car is warm or been driving it for a while, when I started it again it comes on, any ideas??

oh I opened my old switch, and it was faulty so good that I replaced it but not sure why it is still happening

I have heard I need to get my computer reset?

it also does not always come on.

Why not try disconnecting the battery terminal first before you have the car computered reset. Disconnect the battery for 15 minutes.
