AC issues

So i just got a couple pipes changed for the ac, cause they were leaking, so now freon doesn't leak and ac does get cold, but air does not blow from the middle, and it seems like its not blowing enough air from the side vents as well..

Sometimes, the fans seem to blow fast, sometimes they take forever, and when i press the gas sometimes, the fans get really weak..

The AC also whistles..

Any ideas?

you might want to check the cabin air filter, perhaps that has a lot of debris in it. I just vacuumed mine today because I didn't have a replacement on hand; you should have seen how much junk came out.

anyway, the air filter is probably located under the passenger side glove box. there's a panel with a few screws. unscrew those, then the panel should come out. somewhere underneath (in my car, it's to the left side) there will be a rectangular piece with 2 flourescent yellow colored clips which slide off. then the rectangular piece pops off and the filter should be there. (by the way, keep note of which way the filter comes out... mine is pretty tricky to get back in). if you've never changed the filter before, i bet that's the issue. but for now, i'd take it out, give it a thorough vacuuming and then put it back and see what happens. by the way, i would wear a painters' mask or something, because chances are a lot of dust will come out and you don't want to breathe that in.

good luck!

post back here and let me know after

yeah, then just vacuum the filter with a soft attachment. there are lots of folds, make sure to get in between those. just vacuuming out my filter today made a huge difference for me.

also, if you notice significant improvement after vacuuming, then you'll know it was the filter and not something else. if the problem still occurs after cleaning the filter, then there is another issue to deal with.

all right, but if you're so inclined, many gas stations have hose vacuums... it usually costs 50 cents or a dollar. you could do the whole thing at the station. all you need is a phillips head screwdriver. it's only a 10-15 minute project, and vacuuming out the filter now will reduce wear on other parts (remember, fan motors have to work harder if there's reduced flow) and buy you a fair amount of time until you can get a new filter.

Given all of the issues you mentioned, I am guessing you have a leak somewhere in vacuum system. That is why you get variation with engine speed and the leak is where the whistle is originating. It may be a tube, vacuum block, connector or at one of the vent actuators. I bet is it at least partly with one of the flap actuators for the center vents.
