Help! whats motor interchange? c280
Hi guys, my 95 c280 motor got wasted in a front end collision and now I'm shopping for used one...what years work? 94-97? or 94-96? I got a line on a 97 thats in the right milage range but there seems to be some question on direct interchange anyone know? thanks, cliff

You need the straight 6 cylinder. Toward the latter half of w202 production, they switched to a V-6. That was in 97 or 98 I believe (but you need to double check my memory on this).

yeah I know, but where's the gurus?
yeah, I got a straight 6 and I have seen a couple of v6's advertised as 97's but many more straight 6's for 97, but hollander says direct exchange is 94-96 eventho the straight 6 seems to be used for most 97's too, there must be some difference between the 94-96 and the 97 straight 6 and thats my question....often some simple non vital difference can change the direct fit designation but they could've changed something for that one year that makes it an absolute one year use motor, like timing changes that make it incompatable with 94-96 ecm or what ever...so I need the guru's to step up here!...thanks for the bump tho...cliff
