How do I aim headlights?

Hi,
How do I go about aiming the headlights in my 2000 c230? I've noticed that the lights have levels in them and there are also scales on the sides.

If anyone has pictures, that would be awesome too.

Thanks!

I believe there is a reference to this in the standard owner's manual. You will want to look at the standard beam pattern. It is quite unique and if you don't understand it first you will not get the aim right. Many people think their lights are mis-aimed until they see the way the pattern is supposed to look.

Yep. I aimed them tonight. The beams were just a little low. I didn't touch the horizontal aiming, though, I read that the horizontal aim is dependent on the vertical aim. I used the tape on the wall trick. This is the guide I found: http://www.automedia.com/Aiming_Head...cr20010801ha/0

I hope it's relevant. Anyway, there is more light on the right side of the car when driving, which I read is normal. Right? But either way, headlights look pretty normal now.

Update. Got flashed a bunch of times by other people, which is when I realized that the beams were aimed too high. I just lowered them a little and haven't gotten flashed since. When I have some time, I'll do the adjustment properly.

ok, I can try to take some pics tomorrow of what I have, if I remember (like the levels and grids on the side. I think they're pretty good, but not perfect.
But no one has been flashing me since I readjusted them, so I think they're good.

I took these pictures of my headlight aiming. However, these settings may not work for you. Your car must be on level ground when adjusting the lights.

I would recommend using this guide to help you: http://www.automedia.com/Aiming_Head...cr20010801ha/0

If you need it perfectly set up, then you might need to go somewhere with specialized equipment.

lots of cars
I put mine on the second line and they are perfect. I tried to put them in the middle but if you can't see your lights on the floor about 20 feet in front of you, they are too high...

What do you mean by the second line? could you highlight it on my images, perhaps?
For me, I pretty much just kept lowering them until people weren't flashing me anymore :P

lots of cars
Here...btw, the best way i use to aim lights is by parking behind a car and trying to see where it aims on the bumper of the car in front of me.

Did you read the "adjusting headlamp aim" page in your owner's manual? There is a good method listed there.
