ECU Reset / Turn of ABS Light

I had my codes scanned yesterday by an indie because my ABS light is on. The code was C1101 which is the right front wheel sensor. I got home and cleaned the sensor and replaced, I left the battery unhooked overnight, and this morning as soon as I cranked it up, the ABS light came on immediately (just like it always does). The indie said the code was "hard faulted" (whatever that means).

Anyway, Is their anyway to reset the ECU? I've tried fuse #32 and the battery thing. Will I have to go back and have them turn off the light with their computer?

Thanks

Yeah, there is a way to reset it. I don't know if it will work in your model. But anyway, here are the steps:

1. Turn the key to the second notch (you know, where all the warning lights go on, but the car isn't started).
2. Press the gas all the way to the floor, past where you think it will go. There should be a click, which is the "quick downshift" being engaged.
3. Hold the gas like this for at least 7 seconds.
4. With the gas still pressed, turn the key to off (but don't remove it!)
5. Wait about 3 minutes without touching anything. Don't open the door, don't turn the key. Nothing!
6. You might hear a faint click noise come from around the display cluster.

Anyway, if you did it properly, the ECU should be reset. It does work on my car, but I'm not sure if it will for the 96 model. If not, look around, there might be another way.

Oh yeah. Once you turn the key to 0, you can take your foot off the gas and just relax for the 3 min.

YES!

Cleaning the wheel sensor didn't work. I checked it with a mulimeter on the OHM setting and it had no continuity.

I ordered a new one from PartsGeek (very fast shipping, will use again). I replaced the wheel sensor and started the car. ABS light came on immediately .

BUT, after taking it for a test drive the light went out after about a tenth of a mile!

So it turns out the Computer didn't need to be reset, it found the new sensor on it's own!

Cheers
