Changing Blower Motor on 95 C280

How hard is it to change the blower motor? On the 123 bodies they seem to start with the blower and build a car around it. My sister's 126 was easy in comparison.

I am hoping that I don't have to take the dash out.

Thanks,
Tad

It's not a *complete* walk in the park, but it's close.

The first thought that I've got, though, before you drop the $250 for the motor is to check the cabin filter-- a clogged or even just dirty one could impact the performance of the motor.

As for changing the motor, if you've ever changed the cabin filter, you'll know where its located. If not, look on the passenger front side footwell. On the left hand side of the footwell, there's an air vent. Remove that. Then, on the top of the footwell, there's a large plastic panel that you need to remove. It has three phillips screws that you need to take off to get this panel off. After removing this panel, look up (a flashlight might help). There should be two compartments that are secured by clips. the long skinnier one is the cabin filter. (BTW, it might be a good idea to change this at the same time that you change the blower motor) The squarish one is the blower motor assembly. unclip the cover, and there's the blower motor. It unscrews (I think that there's 4 torx screws, but they might be phillips) and there's a single electrical connector that you disconnect and there's your motor.

Good Luck,

Eric

Initially I am not going to change it, just try to get some light oil down into the bearings. I'll check the filter while I'm in there.

It is making a high pitched noise now that is even more annoying than the hiss from the crappy becker radio.

Thanks for the help,
Tad

have the same problem with 94 C280 blower motor

I'm curious how this turned out as I have the same problem, including the noise. I went 90% of the way to finding the motor and stopped thinking it was in the center console. I'll try again.

About every year and a half I have to oil the bearings again, but not a sound for 16-18 months for the cost of 15 minutes to oil the bearings, it's a bargain compared to the price of a new blower IMHO.

thanks!

Your site with description of repairs is just what I needed; thank you so much. After owning my 94' C280 for several years now, it's pretty obvious that they all need basically the same attention. Let's see, wiring harness, head gasket, throttle actuator and of course the obvious stuff like brakes and oil changes. I've had a lot of fun with the car and I'm struggling with the idea that I could just replace it at this point. I've got 207,000 miles on it and I have the money to get something newer, but I've fixed almost everything on it. I'm thinking I'm going to buy something fun/less practical and keep the C280 as a second car.
