c230 maintance question
I have a 1999 c230 Kompressor. Doing some maintanace and have a few questions.
95000 mi and dont know if timing belt has been changed. Is this a non interference engine?
Need to drain flush and refill the antifreeze. what type is recommended?
Transmission is it too late to drain and replace the filter?
Got the car from inlaws they were just to old to get in and out any more but dont remember the service history.

its a Timing Chain engine and yes it is an interference engine.. However, I have seen many of these cars go 200k miles or more and still not need to replace the chain..
As for the antifreeze, obviously the dealer stuff is recommended, but I have seen all colors of the stuff in these cars..
I would also go ahead and do the service on the transmission.. Usually they are recommended about ever 60k miles so you really aren't too far behind..
You may also want to put a new set of spark plugs in the engine while you are in there since they are recommended about every 30k miles..

'99 c230 Kompressor
There is a school of thought that on the higher mileage cars that haven't had the trans fluid changed (ever) that you do a partial change the first time, run it through a few thousand miles, then do a full change of transmission fluid and the filter. It's believed that a sudden change in the fluid can cause damage, I suppose from the difference in viscosity of old, thick fluid and newer, thinner stuff.
