2000 C230 Sport Air Conditioning problem
Not sure what happened but this just started. Turned on the AC today and it didn't get too cold. So I hit the RESET button (climate control with manual wheels on each side) to recirculate to cabin air, and the system did nothing. Light come on, but usually you can tell when you are recirculating cabin air by the noise.
So when I noticed that was not working I tried something else. I moved the manual dials down to heat (did not move to click into defrost mode), and the air temperature stayed the same. The temp did not change till I clicked it into defrost mode and the air immediately became hot. After taking it out of defrost mode and moving the dial back up to cold, but not clicking into air conditioning mode the air temperature stayed hot. It did not cool off any until I clicked it into air conditioning mode.
I'm pretty sure the climate control doors and the air recirculation door are control by a servo and vacuum, but I do not know where that is located at. If someone could point me to where that is located I can start tracing down this problem. Or if anyone has any suggestions I am willing to listen. This was working just a couple of weeks ago, the temp got cold for a few days so had to run the heat and defrost. But now back up in the high 80s, and when I called for air this is what I got.

Your warm A/C
I assume it's warm/hot where you live which would explain why the air wasn't cold when you tried your A/C. I would go to pep boys and spend $15 or so on an A/C recharge kit. Get one with a free black light and recharge you A/C (read the directions, it's very simple). Once it's full and running cold, inspect the A/C condenser for leaks with the black light. If you see a leak or if the A/C gets warm again after a day or week, you have a leak and need a new condenser. Stealership quoted me $1,700 for parts and labor, I had an indy do it for $550. Ice cold now. There is also a DIY on benzworld.org forums.

Well yes that would explain why it wasn't getting cold. But checking the low pressure side, pressure is still within the acceptable range. The reason I am thinking it is not getting cold is due to the blend doors not functioning properly. Hence the reason you could move the dial up or down with no change to the temp. It was not until you clicked it into defrost or A/C was there ever a temp change. That and the Recir door not opening, would lead me to believe it being a vacuum or servo problem and not a charge problem.
