wiper acting strangely, help!

OK, now the first issue has arisen.
The windshield wiper has begun acting very strangely. Sometimes it is fine. Other times, it gets about a third of the way through the stroke, pauses, goes glacially slow the next third, and finishes fine. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this.
Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks! -Jim

Before you go out and get a new motor/mechanism, it might just need to be lubed. That seems to fix most problems. I have a couple links at home that describe how to do this if you're interested.

Sorry for the slow post. Here are some links that will help you take apart the wiper mechanism and show you how to hopefully fix your problem w/o having to buy a new mechanism:

And here is some more info from MBenz's site about taking apart the wiper area...as well as how to make your wiper vertically parked..hehe:

Hope this helps!

Don't buy a new motor or mechanism yet. I've had the nut come loose on the wiper motor arm and all it took was an hour or so to R & R the motor assy. and tighten the nut.
I don't know why it came loose. It was a locking type nut, if I remember, and nothing could get to it...but there it was. Sometimes the splines would catch and sometimes they wouldn't, causing very erratic operation.
