BAS Release Switch for C180 -2001 model
Hi guys
I live in Australia and I have been quoted a ridiculous price to replace the Brake Assist release switch for my C180 ($700.00). Anyway, my last part I got from Uk merc dealers at a fraction of the price. However, I am unable to track down a BAS Release Switch which will enable the BAS and ESP lights to stop coming on all the time. Its a pain in the preverbial as the BAS and ESP are all fine but there just seems to be a problem with the release switch itself. To buy a complete ESP control module its gonna cost about five grand which isnt worth it but hoping to track down a release switch first. Has anyone else had this problem and do they have a fix? Would be grateful for your advice and help here.

Hi there down under,
I am not sure what you mean by a brake release switch.Do you mean the switch mounted behind the brake pedal. This is a common failure item and only costs £15 from a main dealer and takes 10 minutes to replace so i can't believe it is the one you want but it does cause the symptons you describe with the bas warning lamp.

Try replacing your brake light switch on the brake pedal. They can cause all sorts of problems I had my BAS/ASR light come on lost my Cruise. They all work from the switch. Seems like the problem is a small one. Switch is a BOSCHE switch and for some reason the fail. Good luck and let me know the outcome.
