Question New Member Needs Hook Up HELP!!!! EVERYONE PLS!

hello all... i recently got my c280 (98) in silver and gave my e30 project car to my dad. i saw one of your guys' sites (the dude with the black benz) and noticed that your friend is working on an e30. i hooked mine up. i will post some pics of my is300 blue e30 bimmer (it's an e36 killer with an evo m3 motor for track) if u want, or email them but guarantee there are none as hard as mine... but hey, that's what everyone says...

anyhow, back to the benz. i can't leave this damn thing stock -- it's against my religion and all, so i need advice -- quick.

i want wheels... 18's or 17's... i had 18's on my bimmer and they rubbed (it was literally on the floor) and so i dunno.

can someone give me advice on tire size *I KNOW U ANSWERED THIS A MILLION X BEFORE, BUT I WANNA BE SURE 'FORE I BUY* and pad size for an 18x7.5 and an 18x8 and an 18x8.5 so that it sits without rubbing? -- can u let me know what tire to use if i left it stock (so that it covers a decent amount of wheel fender gap) and what tire to get if i drop? oh and what spring pad??? i don't wanna be on the floor, just a nice no-show fender drop.

should i lower it too? i hate to lower a benz and want a similar ride to OEM so i would invest in bilstein sports this week and some intrax springs (or are hr's better??? they seem to be the preferred here on this board -- i had eibachs on the bimmer)... also what camber kit do i need? do they make a rear??? for lowered cars too??? will this even make a difference? also, can some of u post ur pics of ur cars with bigger rims b4 the drop/lowering and then after??? thanks so much for your help, i just have a lot to do to it, and want to get it done but need some advice...

damn sorry for this long msg!

Do a search on this forum for all the info you need. You should find a lot of info. Then post again asking any other questions you got about the info you found.

I'm not sure where to start. If you lower your car the widest wheel you can have is 8 inches. If you want to maintain the factory ride don't get Intrax. You can call them yourself and they will tell you the same thing. Their springs are much stiffer than everyone else's. H&R, Eighbach, Brabus, and Carlsson are all good springs. I have also heard good things about Vogland (sp?) springs. Bilstein sport shocks are the way to go after you put on the new springs, just do it quick as you will kill the factory shocks. I can't tell you what pad size to go with as every c class is different in the way it reacts to springs. You will have to lower it and then fine tune the height the way you want it. My suggestion is start out with a 3 or 4 pad and work your way down until you start rubbing. I'm still working on this whole camber kit thing. I was offered one for 700 dollars but I'm not about to dish out that much cash for some bolts and nuts. I can just make one myself.

Here you go. Look at your car. It is the before picture. Here is the after picture. (I'd like to thank "The Benzie" for this picture)

Thanks, it's not mine. It was just a good example. Mine is at the top of page 2 of the picture thread. Carlsson Springs, 17" by 7.5" wheels, #2 pad all the way around.

As Doug said spring pads will react differently depending on what options your C280 has. If you want a nice drop with little rubbing (absolutely no rubbing is pretty hard once you drop a w202) I would go with Eibach or H&R springs with the Bilstein sport or Koni adjustable shocks. As far wheels go 18x8 are a good size )which I had for a while) but I now run 18x8.5 all around. I also have #1 pads all around with Eibach springs and Bilstein sport shocks. Here is what my drop looks like and check out my C280 Website for more info.

If you are planning to set up your wheels as staggard then I would go for 18x8.5 rear and 18x8 but not 18x8.5 all around unless you gonna roll up your fenders to avoid rubbing.
Here's my car with #3 pads rear and #4 pads front.

But now I got #2 all around. Camber kit front and rear by K-mac.
How u doin Chris? Nice ride you got there. Got your K-mac installed?

Ops!! the white C280 is mine and just ignore that C180 in front of me..

Talking THANKS! quick question...

Doug, Soldsep, Mic280, Henry47, and of course MBKID, -- Thanks for all your help and pics and ideas. I can't tell u how much i appreciate how much you guys went out of your way to help me... All of your cars look great -- doug, I was gonna say i thought ur car was blk with different wheels on the site??? thanks for the clarification there bud, and all the rest of you too, thanks a million...

quick question though -- mbkid -- you're running 18x8.5 all around right?? this is what i plan on doing because the wheel i wanna get does not come in 7.5 or 8 for that matter *width* so did u roll ur fenders??? if not, do u get major rub?? i didn't roll the fenders on the bimmer i had and it was dumped on the floor but the wheels (when turning) pulled the damn paint right off the fender wheel well (but i mean a lot -- to where u could see it if u pulled up alongside me)! LOL! I understand rub if i don't roll my fenders... but will the rims hit the fender wall (inner) or the steel body of the benz, ruining or bending the wheel well... all theoretical questions... answer according when possible... u guys are great... thanks!!!!!! and reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal sweet a$$ rides!

sol_T: Yes I have 18x8.5 all around with 35 offset and no I didn't roll any of the fenders. The rub for me is very minimal and I suspect that is because of my Eibach springs. They don't drop as much as the H&R or others. Also I I have 225/40ZR18 tires up front. The #1 pads all around are ok although I would probably suggest something thicker in the rear maybe #3. I also have the K-mac camber kit on my rear and yes you will need some kind of camber kit eventually as the springs settle and you get tired of uneven wear on expensive tires. I had 18x8 AMG Monoblock IIs all around before and also had just a tiny bit of rubbing. Now when I say rubbing I mean on the inner wheel well. THe rubbing only occurs at full turnlike when backing out of a parking space. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Proper offset will minimize rubing.
