I'll bet MBtech208 is about to have a go at this one. You should get one of those CD manuals off Ebay. They will help out a lot. Best 12 bucks you ever spent.

Well I found one for 48 bucks so I'll order it after my surgeries (ie: when I return to work). So can anybody please show/tell me how to change the belt on this? I would be very greatful as it would save me time and headaches. Thanks.

There is a diagram under the hood. You have to loosten the tensioner. It is located by the oil dipstick. It is often mistaken for the hole you put the dipstick in after you check the oil. When you see it you will know what I mean.

That's great, thanks Doug. Is there a torque spec on the tensioner botl that you are aware of?

Well, I've never had to change the belt on my C280 before (only my 190E) so I've said about all I know. If it were me, I would just tighten it till the belt feels tight and only slightly flexes when you push down on it. After two weeks, check it and tighten it again if needed.

DougandhisC280, i have a 1991 190E. Would you be able to write me how to tighten the belt assuming that i dont even know where it is? My car screeches for a few seconds like it is on heat in the mornings when I start up.

The tensionner is self adjusting, so I don't think there's anything that needs to be torqued or untorqued. You move the tensioner out of the way using a key in the bolt, but you don't unscrew it if I remember properly. Then you just remove the old belt and put a new one following the diagram under the hood.
The tensionner needs to be moved out of the way once to remove the belt, and once to put the new one in.
