Undesireable xenon/hid side effect?

I installed xenon/hid lights in my wife's '96 C280 Sport and now, when the lights are turned on, the digital portion of the gauge cluster loses its display (odometer, trip odometer, time, outside temp., etc.).
It does not return when the lights are turned off, you have to shut the car down and restart to get it back.
Has anyone seen/heard of this before?
What causes it?
Is there a fix for it?
Thanks, Greg.

There must be a short somewhere. Try putting back the original bulbs and observe whether the display in the cluster acts up. If it does not then the HID kit is faulty.

i agree... just try to put back the stock bulbs and check whether the display in the cluster acts up.... if not, that means the HID bulbs are incompatible to your stock bulbs.... you can install a error canceler for HID to delete the problems and make HID kit work properly....

I also have that problem sometimes , I reused a kit that was on my nieces 2003 e class which never pulled error message. However at times the odo, temp and clock would disappear when switched hid on the c220.

ummmmmmmm, that seems to be a little common issue for most car models............but i think it is better to install a error canceler for HIDs to eliminate error code...
