Extra noise when cold

My '95 C280 just started making a lot more noise than usual first thing in the morning (cold). It sounds like the auxillary fans are on, but they aren't. After it warms up for 5 - 10 minutes, it goes away.

Someone mentioned it may be the air injector fan. What's that?

Anyone been thru this one before?

I've had the car for about 5 years and the noise its making isn't normal. It always has been a little louder when cold, but this is loud.

Maybe this air injector fan is going bad, but I can't even find it. I hear the noise around the front of the engine. I've changed the water pump before so I know my way around the area. Is it electric?

I have similar problem with my C200. My mechanic told me it is due to the hydraulic valve tappets. It is normal when the car is cold, especially after a few days not running. The other possibility is the auto belt tensioner inside the idler pulley. I have replaced mine twice . Hope it's helped. Bye
