Unhappy Temporary repair of C36 wiring harness

I was really enjoying the blistering performance of my 95 C36 when I discovered that the main engine wiring harness was also blistering in the high underhood temperature. With macabre visions of fried expensive computers swimming in my head, I gingerly explored the segment of it that attaches to the thermostat and was horrified when I saw BARE WIRES inside the fabric sleeve.

WTF! The internal insulation is gone! The farther I inspected the more insulation crumbled into my trembling hand so I stopped disturbing the harness and concentrated on fixing those wires that I had exposed pending replacement of the dreaded wiring harness.
To repair, I applied electrical varnish on the 4 wires and when they were tacky, covered them with the PVC jacket which I had previously stripped from #14 THHN wires. Then I wrapped them all in rubber tape and laid on a layer of 3M PVC tape for good measure. Whew!

Does anybody know the part number for this blasted harness, where I can get it and approx cost? Some guys said that this is an AMG-specific part so will probably be $$$.

Regards

Mine was fried at 70,000-80,000 miles on my 1995 C36. I had extended warranty so they took care of it. It was a few hundred from what i remember. Extended warranty used some after market one so I know its out there. If you want I can try to find from my old files on my car and see what it tells me. Tell me if you still need the info.

Thank you for the kind offer. It would be great if in your spare time you can retrieve the part number of this bloody harness. Biodegradable my a*s.

My local dealer had already ordered this part from Germany and as expected, it costs an arm and a leg.

Ouch

They had to replace it as part of my 90k service. It is about $1300 with labor. The part is the expensive part, 'cause installation takes about 10 minutes.
