1998 C 280 trans problem
I am looking to buy a 1998 C 280 from someone I know. It's only got 86,000 miles but it will not shift out of first gear. I thought I saw a similar post on here before but cannot find it now.

Call Mercedes dealer and ask the service advisors or service manager and ask them if it was a known recall from MB for the tranny not shifting from 1. might be a sensor/module but you never know for certain until you run SDS on the car.

It sounds from this post as well as others that you may want to consider turning down this car.
A MB auto transmission that will not shift out of first could mean serious $$$$.
You can try reseting the trans ECU but I doubt that would cure the problem
