When this happens, try turning the steering wheel left and right as much as you can. Sometimes if the wheel is a certain way, the starter inter-lock won't disengage. Also, try jiggling the shifter a little when it's in park. Sometimes I have to do that to be able to remove my key, so maybe it applies to your issue too.
By the way, have you tried using a spare key and seeing if the problem exists with that one too?
Is your car's (and key's) batteries in good shape?

This happened to me about a month ago and it ended being dust inside.I opened it up and took out the circuit board and cleaned the red eye on the fob.do not clean the board.my key now turns like it used to.
