Bulb replacement / Insturment cluster

Does anyone know how to pull insturment cluster to replace a bulb? Are any special tools needed. The last time I had one go out my mechanic charged me $78.00 for the labor to do it.

That's a rip off for labor, surely they do not take an hour, it should be like ten minutes tops. You can do it yourself, it's very easy and replacing a bulb is like removing a fuse.

To do this, do you have to unbolt any bolts. I had the plastic screen in the lower left corner of the cluster fall. I need to get it back on somehow. Anybody know how to do this? I am sure that you can change the guage face color, but I have to get to it... Thanks and sorry for the hijack...

get two coat hangers, make the hook the shape of an "allen key" wrench. insert at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock then pull back out slowly, you'll feel that the "hook" at the end has latched onto something. It may take a few tries. Once you get the cluster out, there are two connectors in the back, one on the right and the other on the left. They're held down by plastic clamp type holders. They just unclip and the connectors pull out.

no bolts or screws. just take your time and you'll be set.

DO NOT turn the ignition key ON, while the cluster is unplugged.

Are you changing the colors, or just replacing a dead bulb?

And yes, a hanger works just as good as the "mercedes pullers".
