brake problem

Land Rover Discovery and Mercedes Benz C220
Unhappy brake problem

I just recently change my brake master cylinder on my C220. And now my brake makes a loud squeking noise when i drive. The noise stops when i step on the brakes. All my pads are new. But i didnt turn the rotors. Pls help. Thanks.

Unless you have perfectly flat rotors than this will happen and is normal. Usually small ridges build up on the rotors so when you put new flat pads on they don't set flush with the rotors. Once the pads break in they will begin to have the same grooves as the rotors and the squealing will stop.

I think the rotor needs to be resurfaced or replaced. When I changed my rear pads and didn't resurface the rotor, it made a LOUD *** noise every time I stepped on the brakes. It was so loud it was embarrassing. I took it to the shop and had my friend resurface it and the noise went away.

Basically, he told me that even though you bought new OEM pads, my rotors were probably warped from the old pads. The old pads adjusted to the warp of the rotor, hence it didn't make any noise. Now the new ones aren't adjusted to the warp rotors. So the LOUD embarrassing noise.

Time to go back

and revisit the new master cylinder.(Is it new,rebuilt,or pulled from a boneyard?)...The pads and rotors didn't suddenly shift into noise-making mode while sitting in your driveway.Since the squeaking started right after the M/C was installed,it might be a good place to start looking for the problem's source. Sounds as though your pads are not fully retracting due to residual pressure kept in the brake lines by your new M/C.
