1998 C230 drivability issues
Thinking of purchasing a 98 C230 but it has problems with throttle response and shifting through the gears when starting out. Its a 5 speed auto. Once up to speed it seams to run ok. Car can be had fairly cheep. Is there a fairly easy fix to all of this or is the tranny going out. The owner said that it had some warning lights on and he cleared them with a scanner. Had low voltage in battery also. We had to jump start it. Looking for help on all the forums. Would really like a Benz . Car will not be around long so please help me join the ranks

Lots of folks have looked at this but no ideas. From what I have been reading it could be the MAF for the throttle response could that also effect the transmission shift response time as well? Any thoughts on the matter would be nice!

I realize you are asking for the forums imput but can you provide some backround on the car?At least the mileage? From the sounds of it , a new mass air sensor is between $175-$200.00 IIRC.If you are handy you can change it out in 20 min. Then 4 new spark plugs , tranny fluid change , and probably a new battery. If you are handy then the only service a $tealership would have to do for you is the tranny fluid change.I would also change out the fuel filter too.For about $500-$600 dollars you've done a full service on the vehicle.
