1997 C230 Pre Model Windscreen Constantly Goes

Hi,

At very first, my windscreen wiper went off intermittently.
I looked at the fuse and it looked ok, so I tried swapping it anyway.

The problem went away. Now this new fuse still looks ok, it's not cracked in the middle/burnt. The wiper constantly goes at say... level 1.

It's quite annoying. Especially as it's summer here now lol...

So if it's not the fuse, what's the next step to try, anyone?

Here is a clip of this happening:

Thanks :>

This is commonly caused by a failed combination switch, and you can replace the entire stalk to remedy the issue. Sometimes, it will start affecting the other things controlled by the switch too, such as headlights lights flasher & signaling.

what piece is the stalk? the long actual wiper? motor? everything?

By stalk I mean the combination switch itself, the hand control that you move to operate the wipers, lights, etc. I have read where several owners have done their own, so I believe it to be a fairly simple repair, but I have not done it myself.
The bulbs could actually be coincidence. Light bulbs are built with what's called "built-in obsolescence" which means they are engineered to last a specific number of hours. It the same as if you change all the bulbs in a room at the same time, they will usually go out within a few days of one another after the expected life span.

do you think it could be the relay?

my rear window heating things only half of them work, bottom half. I tried replacing a fuse for this but it didn't fix the problem. perhaps I'll check this relay first, for both problems.

it was the windscreen relay. exact same joint had a crack in it. I went out and bought a solder iron, solder and put it back to a nice round circle, ensuring there were no cracks/holes anywhere.

problem fixed. windscreen wiper doesn't constantly go anymore. goes when I want it too

the rear window heat sensors had no cracked joints so need to look other things for that.
