No offense, but that was a dumb move. The S2 doesn't have NEARLY the range on Ka the 8500 has. Personally I would never sacrafice protection for netness. If I were you I would take the S2 back and get an 8500 again, otherwise you just got yourself an expensive beeping device. See, cordless detectors don't scan as much because they have to conserve power. There was a post about this in the off topic forum. Search for "radar" and read it.

See, my 8500 was giving me laser when I sat in the garage sometimes, so I replaced it with the Solo S2. I work at bestbuy, so the employee cost was $201, one dollar more than the 8500 at employee cost. So, I decided to try it. I think I am going to bring this one back tomorrow morning before my shift and get the 8500.

what if i buy a power cord for it and have it plugged in 24/7? the solo s2 is suppose to be like the 8500, except cordless, so i figure if i have it plugged into the power socket, it should be better at detecting (not losing sensitivity or range?)

I heard bad reviews about the Solo in Automobile Magazine. Do you like working at Best Buy? I'm going to start working there soon.

The reviews I read on the Solo S2 were good. People said that it was just like the 8500, except cordless. But I am going to return this one tomorrow and get a 8500.

BestBuy is alright, depending on what dept you are working in. Retail in general is iffy. It can be fun or not. I've been with BestBuy for a while and it's been fun and not fun sometimes, but in general, it's OK.

Anyone know anything about the 7500s? It's a new version of the 7500. I'm just weighing my options before returning my solo, which i'm definately doing. its either the 7500s or 8500...

For the amount I paid for my 8500, I was very satisfied with it. I just don't really like dropping $400 for a radar when I can get the 8500 for half the price, which does a very nice job. But, I can't compare yet cuz I've never used the V1 before.

Anyone else use the 8500 or V1, or both? What's your take?

Do that search I told you to do in the "off topic" forum. There's a list of opinions in there and experiences. I say that between high end Bel's, Escort's, and the V1 you're getting your money's worth. The 7500 is a good detector, my dad has one. I paced behind my friend with her 7500 and I had my 8500 and we picked up everything about the same time. But I would get the 8500 just because of the "smart cord" and the better range.

Detector

The best radar detector out there is a vehicle in front of you.

No matter how good the radar detector you have, you can get ambushed if you are the lead car, especially with lasar, which is becoming more and more prevalant.

Get a good detector, and always follow, never lead.

Good man!

That's exactly what I said in the OT discussion of this topic. That's what I always do. I find me an idiot with or without a detector and follow behind him and wait for the cop to hopefully nail him first.
