arming the system?

Is there any codes to enable a honk, or flash when I arm the stock alarm on my 96 c280? I remember reading something about having it programed at the dealer.

This is an interesting post. I was under the impression that the system armed itself when you locked the doors with key. Maybe I was wrong. I need to look at my manual again.

Test it out and see if you dont already have it. I lock my car(98 C280) by key and the alarm comes on like davis449 was stating. Maybe 96 is different.

I know the alarm is set when you lock the doors, but you have no way of knowing if you have locked/armed the system unless you see or hear the lock mechanism. I am looking for a horn honk or light flash to tell me if the the system locke/armed. I guess I did not ask my first question good enough. Sorry.

Oh well, in that case, I don't know what you can do about that. You could buy an aftermarket alarm system that has a feature like that and disconnect/override the factory system. As far as the factory one, there's no sound that I know of that tells you if it's armed. I know that you have to lock it from the outside to armit, though. I haven't even tested mine to see if it works, I need to do that.

Thats funny, mine blinks 3 times if all the doors are close. If the doors are not close it wont blink at all but it will lock the doors.

Alarm on 96 w202

On my 96 C220 the red light would flash a couple of times on the bottom edge of the rear view mirror when the system was armed. When you dis-arm the system the green light on the rear view mirror would flash a coupple of times. If you try to start the car without properly dis-arming the system, both the green and red lights would flash.

On the 97, the flashing lights were added to the drivers door and the trunk release area. 96 and 97 Alarms used IR signals, and do not work well in sunlight. The 96 has one sensor by the rear view mirror and you almost have to be within a few feet of the car front widshield in daytime to use the remote. 97 the added sensors by the drivers door and the trunk release and it works much better. 98 I believe they changed to a radio signal remote control, that works at a much greater distance, but I am not 100% sure about this.
