Hello and HELP!
Hi, am new to the forum and the Mercedes world.
I have some issues with my 1999 C220cdi, which from what I've read on the forum so far, you guys seem to have the knowledge of Mercedes that I am severely lacking!
Being honest, the car was a hand me down from my parents at a good price, else I probably wouldn't have gone for Mercedes. That aside, I am quite impressed with it and up until yesterday it has served me well.
Here is my problem, (forgive the waffle, just woke up from nights)
Yesterday, driving along and noticed ABS and ASR/BAS warning lights came on. Within a few minutes and after stopping at traffic signals, the car would not change up the gears. I stopped for a few minutes, turning the ignition off. On restarting the lights went off drove fine for a few minutes, then lights came on. Have checked battery charge and seems fine.
Drove to work later on and lights stayed on, speedo failed again and this time stayed in 3rd gear, not changing up or down. After stopping and restarting engine, clunks into Drive and after a minute or 2 repeats the process...no speedo, no gear changes.
My thoughts after some reading are the Brake Light Switch and/or the wheel sensors?
Would a fault in any of these sensors/switch cause the gearbox and speedo issues? And is there anyway i can test the sensors without having to limp the car to a mercedes to get ripped off to be put on STAR?
Are there any other likely causes or checks that I can do myself?
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated
