Shifter Problems

My shifter seems loose, it makes a clinking noise when shifting. I shift a lot down to 3 and 2 for engine braking. Perhaps thats the reason its loose now? is this easily fixed? what needs to be done?

Common for W202's to wear out shifter bushings. Easy fix.

get the shifter bushing from the 201 model

thats what my mechanic did. its stiffer and lasts longer

he was saying how the w202 oem shifter bushing is soft and suceptible to melting.

HA! Easy? Try a two hour very difficult job. You have to have girl hands to get up in there to change it. Last time I tried to do it I gave up and took it in to get it done. My bill was $128 for labor and I paid less than $2 for the part.

It's under the car, right under the console area. One of them is easy to get to and the other is nearly impossible. The one I'm trying to replace is the imposssible one.

Are you using the clear ones? I bought the blue ones for the electronic controlled transmission because they are easier to get in. I tried the clear ones at first too but the dealer said they use these because they are much easier.
