A note about mileage…

Recently I had my 60,000 mile service done at an independent shop. While I was there I had some time to look around. This shop works on MB, BMW, Ferrari, and Porsche. Well as I was walking around and looking this is what I saw on mileage. The average mileage on Ferrari was 24,000 and their engines were being rebuilt. BMW averaged 63,000 on all cars in the shop. Porsche averaged 47,000 and MB averaged 138,000!!

The shop owner and I figured out that 80% of all the non MB cars were there with major repair. 92% of all the MB’s were there for routine maintenance. When I saw that I said now MB is an awesome car. With that average I saw dependability, durability (they were all in excellent shape), and value.

Doesn't suprise me...

That's not really too suprising.

Ferraris are built with a race car mindset (where the engines are rebuilt before every race) so I can understand somewhat (but that's still no ecuse. Personally, if I paid that much for a car, I would be pissed to b rebuilding the engine at 24K, but then I would also have the money to fix it so maybe it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

As to BMWs, you can just look around and see that there are not too many older ones still on the road as there are Benzes. Their sales numbers were not as high as Benz historically, so that accounts for some of the discrepancy, but relatively speaking - there are alot more old Benzes on the road than BMWs. It seems like the 3-series holds up the best.

I have to agree

the 3 series is the most dependable in BMW. I saw a lady in a 1972 190 four door yesterday in a parking lot. I had to ask her about her car...well she and her husband are the original owners and the car has 340,000 miles on it!!! Besides the starter and alternator the car is all original!!! The stories never stop for MB...
