Unhappy Ignition or key problem!! HELP PLEASE!

I have an issue with my 1997 mercedes benz c230. I had dropped my key one day and it broke completely, thus i left the batteries out of it and then put it back together. Now the issue that arose was that now my car wont turn on anymore. I turn the key fast and it cranks like it wants to turn on then shuts itself off. Also if i just turn it on to ACC with all the cluster lights on for a little then decide to turn the key it wont do anything. I need to know if i need a new key? or maybe its something with the EIS system? Someone please help me with this issue it would be most appreciated!! i need to get my means of transportation back on the road!!!:co nfused:

If the car was locked by key-remote when you broke the key then it would have activated the Mercedes Anti theft System. You can continue to try to start the car but it's technically disabled until you unlock/disarm with the remote. I've never checked manual for a solution but other cars I've owned allowed you to disarm with key sequence in the door and ignition. Worth a try but now you know what's causing it...

Hi - I am new here . You may have solved your problem by now ? It also happened to me !!
However , you do need to know that inside the key casing, there is a small CHIP , which is loosly placed. If the key is dropped & the casing splits - no doubt the chip will scatter like the remaining bits inside. If you did not collect & refit this chip , you will not be able to get the engine running again via it's ECU unit.

I'd check the crank position sensor if it went bad. My 2000 C280 turned (cranked) but wouldn't start randomly one day. Turned out the CPS died and prevented fuel from getting into the engine thus not allowing it to start. So if it's cranking fast like normal but won't start it doesn't sound like an issue with the key.
