I have come to the conclusion that neither is good. A filter at the end of the MAS, will just suck in hot air since it's by the exhaust manifold and the stock K&N has ruined several MAS meters. I'm out 600 bucks because of a 1 or 2 horsepower gain.

I've had K&N's in my car for more than 50k miles with no MAS problems. The only time my MAS went bad was when I was using the stock filters so I guess it's really a crap shoot. Everyone's experience will probably be different.

i got a drop in K&N and no problem at all...i dont see why it would cause lots of problems really. its like driving high altitude where theres not as much air...and then driving down sea level with more air... would engine light come on bc the mas detected more air??

hey, could it also be the heat messing up the maf? i had this prob on my vw and the MAF was made by bosch too. i first had the prob with oil on the sensor, then i ran with no oil and during the summer is the only time the maf got ruined. i tried a filter that doesn't need oil at all and the maf still got messed up. i tried a custom cold air that i made with pvc and that worked fine. but looked ghetto so went to stock. i didn't have probs with the stock filter though. kinda weird cuz i haven't really seen other cars give maf probs cuz of aftermarket filters.
thankx for the replies.

Doug, just curious but did you try cleaning your MAF. I have submerged my rover a few times and a good cleaning with electrical parts cleaner always worked.

a car that can't do the throttle reset.
k&n never hurt my c36... but gotta say cold air intake is best... supposedly it gives hp... dont know about that but it definitely improves the sound and will not effect the MAS.
