my metal key broke at some point and it had to be welded back in place...it can now only work in the ignition and the co driver's door

So go to the dealer and order a new key. If you get the valet key its cheap like $20.
The only way to figure out what drains your battery is to have the battery charged up. So thats where I would start.

There should be posts up front to jump the vehicle as well. But yea, I would get a spare key anyways. Anything after market installed that is causing a drain? Also, depending on how old the battery is you might want to just replace it.

Had a friend that had another German car BXX that he would take to the airport and be gone a few days. When he returned, the battery was always dead. After spending much time and $$ he found that the trunk light was never turning off. So check that and your glove box also. It could also be a defective diode in your alternator causing the short.
Good Luck.....
