tranny different

hey all,
Usually when you first start up the car in the morning or after a long period of rest for your car, the tranny takes longer to upshift to warm up the cat converter so that it works more efficiently for less emissions. But the past two days, it doesn't hold the gear longer anymore...it just upshifts as if it is already warmed up...but it isn't.

The first occasion, it was sitting outside for more than a day without it being driven and it just shifted normally. Is that normal because of the warm weather? (but it hasn't happened before when it was like 100 degrees outside)...anyone shed some light on this one?

Thanks, G.

I had the same problem on my 94 C220.
There's a vacuum part that delays the shifting. It's called the upshift delay valve or something like this. It's a plastic box with cables. It might need to be replaced.

I agree with cil254. Had mine replaced, but it was still under warranty so I can't help you out pricewise. Good luck!

well to tell you the truth they ended up changing the whole tranny out and putting a new one in, so I think in the long run it will ruin the tranny. Sorry to bring bad news.

DAMN...that really sux. Maybe I should just drive it till it gives me more sign of trouble, as it has 129,000 miles on it currently? This could just be a fluke, hopefully.

possibly.

Benzdude, do you think that the tranny may need a fluid flush, maybe thats causing the problem?
