1996 C220 A/C problem - have diagnostic codes
Less than two years ago, I replaced the A/C compressor in my 1996 C220. It worked fine the first summer but when I turned it on after the Minnesota winter, the compressor isn't engaging anymore.
I read that pressing the "recirculate" button on the climate control for 5 seconds brings up codes and that codes 5,6 and 7 may be helpful in diagnosing the problem. Here are the readings I just took off the car.
05 = 85
06 = 176
07 = 00 6 (with a degree looking symbol between the 00 and the 6)
I have been researching and it seems that two primary issues with the C220 are leaking evaporator core or a faulty evap temperature sensor. Is replacing the evap temp sensor a DIY item? If that's the problem and it is a DIY item, tips would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance
