Buying a 94 c280.everything is fine with the car except and has an idling issue which I think is due to the intake air temp sensor (pretty sure that's what it's called. It's the little nub sticking out of the intake manifold as it comes in from the passenger side, loops around the block and onto the driver's side almost exactly opposite to the MAF sensor)

After unloading at least a half can of cleaner onto the sensor, the car starts fine and after about a minute, it sounds like it's running alot more laboured, and you get this really rich smell of unburned gasoline in the air. And then it just dies out.

Anybody got any ideas?

If it were an 96 or later, my first question would be have you hooked it up and checked for any codes? Not sure on a 94 how you can access them, maybe take it to an independent shop? Otherwise I would say to pull plugs and see what condition they are in and verify you dont have one cylinder running significantly richer or leaner than another.

Although the car is a 94 it is OBD II compliant so you can hook up an OBD II scanner and see if there are any codes. The 94-95 cars did have a wiring harness issue and this unfortunately includes the wiring of the throttle body which also controls the cruise control and the idle circuit. Good luck.

the wire harness was replaced. all the code scanner will say when it's hooked up is that there's a problem with a sensor, doesnt say which one.

Good that the wire harness was replaced. For future reference the throttle body has about 6 inches of wire and has the same biodegradable wire insulation. Unfortunately this is not part of the main harness.

Onto the code....what is the OBD II code
number? That should identify which sensor.
