98 C230 belt tensioner
I've recently purchased a used c230 and noticed a chirping and vibrating tensioner pulley. Initially, I thought it needed a new serpentine tensioner belt shock/damper, but upon further inspection I discovered the shock is completely missing. It also looks like the current belt tensioner has no bolt eyelet where the bottom of a tensioner belt shock would attach. Should I replace with a new tensioner and tensioner shock or adjust otherwise? I knew I could install a shock so is installing a new belt tensioner also a DIY job?

Hi. Have same issue as you I think. Have a tensioner with no shock. I replaced the tensioner much with a febi Bilstein mechanism and a stabilus strut. Went in fine. But when I put the original pulley back on it rubs on the strut. What did you end up doing? Right now I am trying to find a pulley. But I have also found a replacement tensioner on line that does not need the strut..like the one I took off today
. If I can not find a pulley that works then I will swap the Bilstein for this one and return the strut for credit. Let me know how you made out. Thanks.
