winter and warmup

hey all,
Now, I know when you start driving after you started up the car, your suppose to be gentle until the car is fully warmed up. BUT, in the winter, going out my driveway can sometimes be tricky when there is snow out there and I get stuck, so I have to rock back and forth with high revs to get the car unstuck...all of this within 5 minutes of starting the car.

Is this bad for the engine? I always take it easy until the temp guage registers, but this isn't the case in the winter...so what should I do? Thanks.

There are so many arguments about warming up the car. My suggestion would be to simply start your car earlier and let it get to temp before backing out.

they say letting your car run idle isn't good. they also say starting up quickly after a cold start isnt good either. basically all you can do is run slowly until the temp rises...

whoops, i really should be doing that but, i dont. they are probably right but oh well.

Yes, someone does plow the driveway, but then the streets. Stopping at a stop sign then going again, either I have to give it gas to get it to move (spin the tires till about 3500 RPMs) or I don't go anywhere. So kinda dilemma.

I mean, i've been through two winters with my car, so it hasn't done any damage yet , but always that curiosity factor.

Yea, letting the car sit while the engine on after it's been off for a while isn't a good way to warm up. I just to let it sit for like 2 minutes then go, but now, I just wait for the idle to drop below 1000 RPMs then take it easy till the temp gauge registers.

Move to the Deep South...it never gets below 28 degrees here for more than a few hours 5 days a year.

Maybe it's tires. We get big snow and I never have this problem. Are you running a dedicated winter tire? I put Kumho KW-11's on this winter, studded. Outstanding!
