Mercedes Benz 2000 C280
cleaning throttle body..

I have a 2000 C280 (W202) with +220K miles and love it to death.

The problem is the car idles rough... accelerates smooth and runs smooth just at idle she is rough.

My current thoughts are my throttle body needs cleaning, presumably at idle it may be allowing in too much air to get good combustion.

QUESTION:

Is cleaning the throttle body a DIY operation? Any parts need replacing?

I have already swapped my AMS and all 4 O2 sensors. I guess plugs and wires could be swapped.

Thoughts?

What is your idle RPM? At cold start up, and after 10 or 15 seconds?
There are throttle body cleaner sprays at any auto supply store.
How is the air filter as far a being changed last?
Do you hear a sound like a higher pitched fan noise when you start cold?
You should only hear it for about 10 or 15 seconds.
Any specific code numbers, and is the engine light on?

I have the same issue here. At idle, the car shakes and I hear the engine running loud, and the RPM is around 0.5k

Do you recommand doing a seafoam on a C220? I dont think i ever did one... do you think it could fix the problem?

The loud noise is the air pump that comes on when you start the car cold. It turns off in about 10 or 15 seconds. I have never timed it ti the second, but that seems right to me.
Idle speed should be 700 RPM.
Shaking can also be motor mounts. The motor mounts are oil filed (hydraulic), so check for leaks around the front mounts. If they are worn out, that can cause the engine shake. If you need them, your best to buy the full set of 3, which includes the transmission mount.
As far as Seafoam is concerned, I have never used it. Every one says it's a good product.
