Center Console Vent Will Not Open

The wheel on the center console vent of my 2000 C230 will not open the vent. Air flows through the side vents. Does that wheel operate the vacuum system or does it just open a flap mechanically?

Mine does the same thing. The air flows from the front side vents but not from the middle vent.

Pretty annoying!

Hope we can figure it out

I had the same problem also.
I removed the cabin filter, and then it worked just fine.
Try that and see if it works for you.

Where abouts is the cabin filter? And did you reinstall it after?

Not the best one I have seen, but remove the 3 screws as shown, and the one plastic screw on the left. Once the panel drops down slide it forward and set aside.
Look up towards the back, and you will see a black rectangular box. It has 2 clips (white).
Slide the clips towards the middle of the box, and pull down. Sometimes you need to wiggle it a bit to release. When the cap comes off, the edge of the filter is visible. Pull it out gently, pulling the back of the filter down first. Once it's out, replace the cap you removed, and fire up the fan, and see what happens.
Filters are about $10.00 or less. If all works fine, you can replace the filter with a new one. It's about a 15 minute job.
